1. Introduction

1.1 Document purpose & scope

The purpose of a Website Cookies Policy is to ensure transparency and legal compliance regarding the use of cookies and similar tracking technologies. Its primary objective is to inform users, in a clear and accessible manner, about how cookies are deployed when they access and navigate a website. This includes explaining what cookies are, what categories are used (such as technical, analytical, and profiling cookies), what purposes they serve, and whether third parties may access information collected through them. By providing this information, the website operator fulfills legal obligations under applicable data protection and electronic communications laws, including the GDPR and the ePrivacy framework. The Cookies Policy enables users to make informed decisions about their preferences and to exercise meaningful control over non-essential cookies through consent mechanisms. Beyond compliance, a Cookies Policy also performs an essential accountability and trust-building function. It demonstrates that the organization adopts a responsible and transparent approach to digital tracking technologies, respects user autonomy, and implements appropriate safeguards.

1.2 Relation to project work

With specific reference to the MARCONNECT project website, the Cookies Policy governs the use of cookies and similar technologies within the online platform dedicated to presenting and disseminating the project’s activities. The project website may use technical cookies necessary for the functioning and security of the platform, as well as analytical or performance cookies to collect aggregated information about website usage, user navigation patterns, and overall engagement. Where applicable, third-party services (such as embedded media content or analytics providers) may also set cookies through the website. The Cookies Policy clarifies which cookies are used, their duration, whether they are first-party or third-party cookies, the legal basis for their deployment, and the mechanisms through which users can provide, refuse, or withdraw consent. It ensures that any tracking or data collection through cookies complies with the GDPR, the ePrivacy requirements, and the data protection obligations associated with the Horizon Europe framework. In this context, the Cookies Policy is directly connected to the governance of the project’s digital infrastructure. It guarantees transparency toward visitors, stakeholders, and consortium partners, and demonstrates that the MARCONNECT project’s website operates in accordance with European standards of accountability and responsible digital communication.

1.3 Document structure

In this document, a definition of cookies is provided outlined, with a focus on the different typologies of cookies and their functions (§2). The Cookies’ system of Implementation within the MARCONNECT Project’s Website is subsequently described in §3.

The present Cookies Policy (henceforth, the “Cookies Policy”) is provided by IANUS Technologies Ltd, (registered office Spyrou Kyprianou 85, Eleneion Building, 4th Floor, Flat/Office 401, 6051, Larnaca, Cyprus) (henceforth, the “Controller” or “IANUS”), to inform the Users of the MARCONNECT Project’s Website (henceforth, the “Website”) on how cookies on the Website are used.

Any term indicated in capital letters shall have the meaning attributed to it within the EU General Data Protection Regulation no. 2916/679 (henceforth, “GDPR”) or otherwise provided hereto.

For any further information and/or clarifications, it is possible to contact the Data Controller at the following address: info@ianus-technologies.com

To this extent, this document shall be considered as an integral part of the Privacy Policy on the Processing of Personal Data, available at the following link: Privacy Policy

2. Definition of Cookies

The Web Pages of the MARCONNECT Project use cookies. Cookies are text files that are stored in a computer system via an Internet browser. Many internet Sites and Servers use cookies. Many cookies contain a so-called Cookie-ID. A Cookie-ID is a unique identifier of the cookie. It consists of a character string through which Internet pages and Servers can be assigned to the specific Internet Browser in which the cookie was stored. This allows visited Internet Sites and Servers to differentiate the individual Browser of the Data Subject from other Internet Browsers which contain other cookies. A specific Internet browser can be recognised and identified using the unique cookie ID.

Cookies can be “session” or “persistent” cookies. A session cookie is a cookie that is automatically deleted when the user closes the Browser, whereas a persistent cookie is a cookie that remains stored in the User’s terminal device until it reaches a defined expiration date.

Furthermore, additional classification of cookies include:

Typology of Cookie Description of functions
Depending on the Source First Part Cookies: Cookies that a Visitor receives from the same website that he/she is visiting;
Third Part Cookies: Cookies that a Visitor receives from Websites or Web Servers provided by a Third Party.
Depending on the Purposes Necessary or Technical Cookies: These Cookies help make a website usable by enabling functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website. The website cannot function properly without these Cookies.
Marketing or Profiling Cookies: These Cookies are used to track visitors across websites. The intention is to display ads that are relevant and engaging for the Individual User and thereby more valuable for Publishers and Third Party Advertisers.

3. Cookies implemented on the Website

On the Website, the Controller has implemented the following Cookies:

  • “necessary cookies”, both persistent and session cookies.
  • How to disable or remove the Cookies: the User may, at any time, prevent the setting of cookies through the Website by means of a corresponding setting of the Internet Browser used, and may thus permanently deny the setting of cookies.

Furthermore, already set cookies may be deleted at any time via an Internet Browser or other Software Programs. This is possible in all the most used Internet Browsers. If the Data Subject deactivates the setting of cookies in the Internet Browser used, not all functions of our Website may be entirely usable.
