As part of the #MARCONNECT consortium, we’re proud to introduce the Finnish Border Guard, one of Europe’s most experienced and technologically advanced border authorities, operating under Finland’s Ministry of the Interior.
The Finnish Border Guard is responsible for border surveillance, maritime search and rescue, protection of territorial integrity, and immigration control across Finland’s extensive borders, including the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. Finland holds the longest EU land border with Russia (1,340 km), giving its border guard unique operational experience in complex, high-stakes border environments. As a NATO member, the Finnish Border Guard also participates in collective defence.
Actively engaged in EU-funded research, the Finnish Border Guard has participated in multiple Horizon Europe and H2020 projects, including ARESIBO, and recently secured €17 million in EU funding for cutting-edge autonomous drone and unmanned surface vessel surveillance systems. In MARCONNECT, they bring operational practitioner expertise in maritime surveillance. validating the project’s vessel-connected services in Baltic Sea conditions. 🌊🛡️
