What if every vessel at sea could help make the sea safer?

Maritime incidents are not rare events. EMSA recorded 26,751 marine casualties and incidents in EU waters between 2015 and 2024. Coast Guards also have to track small, hard-to-detect boats used for trafficking and dangerous crossings, often with data scattered across separate systems.

That’s the coordination gap. 🌊

Our new video shows how MARCONNECT addresses it. The project enables civilian vessels to voluntarily and securely share sensor data with Coast Guard authorities. The aims are:

👁 Expanded situational awareness

🤝 Faster cross-border cooperation

🧩 An interoperable, scalable platform

🔒 Privacy and trust by design

And it works both ways. Vessel owners get live updates on congestion and hazards like debris fields, so they can reroute early and avoid costly delays.

MARCONNECT brings together 13 partners from 8 European countries, including Coast Guards, law enforcement, shipbuilders, vessel operators and research institutions.

Because safer, more efficient seas don’t start with more data. They start with better coordination.
